It's Been a Week...

since I last posted.  There hasn't been too much going on around here.  We stayed around the house last week, not venturing into town too much.  Saturday we went to the Farmer's market, which consisted of a guy selling lettuce, and a few ladies selling jam and soap.  I got Jason some 4 berry jam, and of course he loves it.  We also made another library trip and then stopped at a local park.

Sunday was church and Pizza Hut.  Then perhaps a few of us took a nap... :)
About 4:00 there was a knock on the door, and it was the Law Enforcement Ranger. He said there was a fire about 5 miles from here, and we needed to be aware that we may have to evacuate.  Of course, that sent my mind racing, wondering what to do and how much to prepare.  I told the girls that if he came back, we would have 5 minutes to pack and leave.  Our plan was to get a suitcase and just throw clothes in it.  Julia was worried about her drawings, books, etc.  I told her we could take that also.  We kept watching the fire update on a website and wondered if we would have to leave.  The fire is still going on now, but it's 60% contained and no longer a threat.  With all of the fires in Colorado, we of course were worried.  The  smoke has been pretty thick but we are all fine.

On Monday, we decided to get up a little early and go for a hike.  We headed to Custer State Park and stopped at Sylvan Lake.  There are many trailheads that start at the lake, and Jason decided we should hike Sunday Gulch.  It was great, but man did we get a workout.  Over 3 hours and 3 1/2 miles.

The girls started swimming lessons last night, so we headed back into town.  They are in different groups based on skill.  There was one other girl signed up with Julia, but she didn't show up. So Julia had a private lesson last night.  She is a good swimmer, and got a lot of practice on different strokes from the teacher.  Ella had 6 kids in her group.  She is a little tentative, but did really well.  The girls were both freezing by the time the lessons were finished. Ella's lips were purple and she was shivering.  We will have lessons every evening for the next two weeks, except for July 4th.  Oh, and the fireworks show is cancelled because of the burn ban, so I'm not sure what we will do tomorrow evening.

There is a town fair today and tomorrow, with Old-Time crafts and activities.  We are headed there in a little while and plan to stay all afternoon, then head to swim lessons.  I'm sure there will be pictures to follow.

  1. If it wasn't for the God-awful winters up there, that would be a cool place to live.
